Innovation a key ingredient at Ronnie Sushi
From the land of the morning calm comes a sushi chef who must be seen to be appreciated. I have no doubt that once you visit Ronnie Sushi you will be hooked.
Located conveniently between Dimond Boulevard and Raspberry Road on Jewel Lake Road, Ronnie Sushi is a dynamic Japanese restaurant that changed the way that I think about sushi.
Sashimi for the squeamish is how I sum it up. Starting with the freshest ingredients available and using an artistic flair I have rarely seen, Ronnie Lee has opened up a new world of cuisine to Alaskans.
Originally from Korea, Ronnie was a fashion director by trade but soon realized the art of creating beautiful sushi was for him. He honed his skill in Japan and, after a stay in Canada, moved to Alaska. That was eight years ago and he has been here ever since.
Now, there’s traditional sushi and there’s Ronnie sushi.
This is where the twist begins: Chef Ronnie makes some fantastic “rolls” that do not contain run-of-the-mill ingredients.
Now everyone can enjoy vast and tasty sushi varieties such as the beef short rib roll, made with barbecue rib, kimchee, tamago and asparagus in a lip-smacking good roll accented with sesame seeds. See that didn’t sound fishy at all.
Try the chicken katsu roll. A Japanese-style fried chicken with crabmeat, cucumber and pickle all rolled in to a delicious package that just begs for more.

| The Ronnie Roll |
|
A must-try is the Ronnie Roll. Made with tempura shrimp, sweet beef, scallion and garlic, this one hits the spot.
There’s even a roll named after my good buddy Chuck, but I will let you discover that one on your own.
Of course all of your other favorites are on the menu as well: spicy tuna rolls, the freshest sashimi, udon and even a New York steak with mushroom sauce.
Beer, wine and a nice selection of sake are available to accompany your delicious meal.
One of the first things you notice about the place is that everyone who enters Ronnie Sushi is smiling. When greeted with a warm and personal welcome, the smiles become even bigger as the joy of anticipation fills the air.
Chef Ronnie Lee has two kinds of friends: old friends and the ones he has yet to meet. This place is great, because of Ronnie, the attitude and, most notably, the food. Treat yourself to one of the most unique and delicious experiences in town. A word of caution though, once you roll with Ronnie, most everything else seems a bit mundane.
